Silly Squad: Summer Reading Challenge 2020

The Summer Reading Challenge is back and online with Silly Squad! This year it's all about books, happiness and having a laugh!

The Silly Squad is a team of animal friends who love to go on adventures and get stuck in to all different kinds of funny books. This year, the challenge features extra special characters designed by award-winning author and illustrator Laura Ellen Anderson, who you'll know from amazing reads like Amelia Fang and Evil Emperor Penguin!

How do I get started?

This year, instead of registering at your local library, you sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge online

Parents/guarantors will need an email address to allow children to register for the challenge. Be sure to list Southampton as your local library authority!

If you encounter any issues when registering please check our Summer Reading Challenge platform guide

It’s completely free!

You can join the Silly Squad on this adventure by setting your own personal reading challenge to complete this summer. The online platform will help you keep track of your books, reviews and the rewards you unlock along the way.

There will be book suggestions and tips on how you can keep reading throughout the summer. There will also be heaps of super silly activities, quizzes, videos, games and more to keep you entertained!

When can I start?

Silly Squad will launch online on Friday 5 June 2020 and run until Saturday 26 September 2020

What can I read?

You can read or listen to any books you borrow from the library, be sure to check out the most up-to-date information when planning your visit.

We also have a wide, wonderful range of children's eBooks and eAudiobooks available to borrow from BorrowBox.

Additionally, throughout the summer, we will continue to signpost books that have been made available to read online by authors and publishers:
