5 for £5 Returns This Summer

Southampton City Council, in partnership with Bluestar and First Solent, are bringing back the 5 for £5 fare offer for groups of up to five people to travel all day, by bus, within Southampton for just £5

From Saturday 22 July to Sunday 3 September 2023, up to five people can buy a group ticket to travel on Bluestar and Unilink services, or First Solent’s X5/X4 services within the city and pay just £5 for the entire day, with no time restrictions.

The return of 5 for £5 will make travelling around the city much more affordable for families and groups, whether that’s to take part in our Holiday Activities and Food programme, explore the city’s great museums, visit our award-winning parks, browse the superb shops or enjoy our outstanding restaurants.

Plan your day, or night, out with family or friends and choose the greener, affordable travel option to get around the city and do all the things you want to do.

Each ticket is valid on the bus services provided by the operator it was purchased from within the Southampton Zone.

In addition, the £1 evening fare and the extension to the Government’s ‘Get Around for £2’ fare cap will continue to make bus travel more affordable for people getting around Southampton by bus, with the offers funded through Government grants.  This is all contributing to bus travel in Southampton increasing and we are seeing as many people catching the bus now as in 2019 and want this to go further.

Councillor Eamonn Keogh, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, said:

“The 5 for £5 group fare offer proved very popular last summer, and, with the help of the Department for Transport, we’re pleased to be able to bring it back and make group travel around the city more affordable when families need it the most.”

Andrew Wickham, Bluestar managing director, added:

“We are delighted this offer is back for summer. It encourages local people to swap their car journey for the bus - with just one fully loaded double decker bus having the potential to take up to seventy-five cars off the road. This is good news as it will help ease congestion, improve air quality, and benefit people’s pockets.”
