The hybrid event will take place in the Mayor’s Parlour on Friday 8 March from 4.30 to 6.30pm and is an opportunity to hear from, and network with women working and living across the city.

International Women's Day (8 March) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality. The theme for International Women’s Day for 2024 (#IWD2024) is #InspireInclusion and Southampton City Council will mark the occasion with a panel and networking event.

Speakers at the event will empower and inspire attendees whilst providing the opportunity to network with members of the community and like-minded people. A full list of guest speakers can be found on the event page.

Due to capacity limitations, tickets to attend the event are limited. Those wishing to attend in person can register for free online. Those that want to attend virtually via Microsoft Teams can sign up online.

In addition, the International Women’s Day flag will be flown at the front of the Civic Centre as the council pledges to #InspireInclusion both on International Women’s Day and beyond.

Councillor Lorna Fielker, Leader of Southampton City Council said:

“For me, International Women’s Day is one of the most important days in the calendar and I look forward to it every year. The work that is done around the globe is incredibly inspiring, but locally it’s a fantastic opportunity to come together and celebrate the incredible women that are doing extraordinary things to help make our city the great place it is. I’m proud to be hosting an event this year and have an incredible line up of speakers. Events like these bring together women from across Southampton, of all ages and backgrounds, to hear inspirational and inclusive stories.”

Many other events are taking place across Southampton, including Art Talk with Verity Babbs: More than a Bouquet – Paintings of Flowers and Feminist Messages.
