More electric Vehicles added to our fleet

The long-standing Highways Service partnership between Southampton City Council and Balfour Beatty Living Places has recently extended their commitment to the environment by adding 10 new Vauxhall Combo-e vans to its existing electric fleet

These new e-vans replace diesel vehicles that were previously used by the workforce to manage the city’s roads and will help to reduce our emissions and efforts to tackle climate change and local air quality.

These vehicles will be based at our City Depot, where we’ve been investing in Electric Vehicle charging infrastructure, energy efficiency measures and heat pumps to make this a low carbon facility. The depot benefits from a large rooftop solar array allowing us to charge these vehicles with our own renewable energy.

Councillor Eamonn Keogh, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, said,

"These new vans take us another step closer to delivering our shared net zero ambitions and I’m pleased to see our partners helping us with the goals we set out in our Green City Plan.”

Brian Hammersley, Contract Director for Balfour Beatty Living Places added:

“I am delighted to see the new electric vans take to the roads here in Southampton. The corporate strategies of Southampton City Council and Balfour Beatty are closely aligned, and we are working together to meet our carbon reduction targets. This is another positive step in the right direction and we look forward to further deployment of vehicles and plant utilising clean fuels in the coming months."

Southampton City Council's efforts to reduce emissions and improve air quality demonstrate its commitment to creating a sustainable future for its residents and businesses.
