Multiply returns to round-up residents’ numeracy skills

The Government’s Multiply numeracy programme returns to the curriculum in Southampton this September to help adults improve their numeracy skills

Text in the image reads: Maths confidence is a great addition, at work or at home, alongside which is the Southampton City Council logo and the Unlock Your Potential, Skills for Life, Multiply logo.

Multiply provides the opportunity to sign up for free numeracy courses for those aged 19 and over who don’t have a maths GCSE at grade c or equivalent with the goals of boosting maths confidence as well as gaining new qualifications.

Good numeracy skills may unlock new job opportunities, lead to higher wages or help prepare for further study. And they also help in everyday life, with managing money, cooking and baking, and planning travel.

The available courses range from those for beginners to more advanced courses such as GCSE Maths and Functional Skills Qualifications. Online tutorials and content are also available, so learners can go at a pace that suits them.

In Southampton, Bfluent GCSE and Vocational Training, City College Southampton, CLEARproject, Itchen College, Southampton Art Gallery, TWICS, and Workers Educational Association all have Multiply courses available for sign up.

Councillor Sarah Bogle, Cabinet Member for Economic Development, said:

“We are very pleased with the response of our adult learning providers within the city who, by signing up to the Multiply programme, have demonstrated that they share our commitment to providing new opportunities for Southampton’s people to grow.”

You can find out more about our local providers and their courses or visit Multiply - Skills for Life to search for providers and courses outside of the city.
