Empty or derelict properties

We define an empty or derelict property as one that has not been occupied for six months or more.

A property that has been empty for a long period of time can become the target of antisocial behaviour and cause problems for the neighbourhood.

It may also become derelict, causing health and safety problems. We have powers to intervene in situations where this is the case.

We work with homeowners in the city to try to make sure houses are brought back into use.

It is very unlikely that we would deal with empty properties where the only concerns are overgrown gardens or untidy conditions.

Use the form below to report any concerns you may have about an empty or derelict property.
