What is affordable housing?
Affordable housing helps people who are unable to afford to buy on the open market or to rent private housing. Affordable housing is sometimes called ‘social housing’. This includes homes for rent and for Shared Ownership (part rent, part buy).
We want to make sure that housing in the city meets the needs of all residents.
Working in partnership
We work with partner housing associations to meet the need for affordable housing in the city through the Southampton Affordable Housing Partnership (SAHP). The current partnership consists of the council and the following housing associations.
The SAHP strives to provide the equivalent of one new affordable home each day of the year.
- Aster Housing Group
- First Wessex
- Spectrum Housing Group
