A guide to graduated pastoral support

Support with medical needs is not the only concern that some children and young people face. Many also have mental health and wellbeing needs. These may relate to:

  • Long-term chronic conditions
  • The beginning of a late onset condition
  • Unexpected complex conditions
  • Any combination of factors impacting social, emotional or mental health

Is your child becoming more worried or anxious about school? We recommend reading the parent information leaflet from the Southampton Educational Psychology Service. This links with school strategies for early intervention. See Information and help for families.

Your child's school can help with inhouse support. External charities, organisations and agencies can also help. It is important to understand where these may fit in to the package of support offered.
