Being a parent

Southampton Family Information Service knows when you start your pregnancy experience, there is a lot of information to work through. This page can help point you in the right direction.

I'm pregnant - what do I do next?

Firstly, you’ll need to make an appointment with your doctor. They’ll be able to plot your due date with you and share information to the Maternity Services, who will arrange a booking appointment. This takes place when you’re approximately two months pregnant.

For more information about your antenatal care visit the NHS website’s dedicated maternity pages.

What financial help is available?

There is a range of funding available to help with the cost of raising a family. Some is available to everyone, regardless of circumstances and how much you earn. Some funding is only available to certain families, depending on family situation and income.

Most of the financial help can only be claimed once your child is born, though some money may be available before.
