Childhood obesity

Childhood obesity and excess weight are significant health issues for children. They can lead to problems for a child’s physical and mental health, which can continue into adulthood.

Action is essential to tackle childhood obesity and encourage positive changes in behaviour around eating and activity.

How can you help?

  • Remember that healthy weight is achieved through an improved diet and physical activity
  • Recognise that obesity is complex - it can be influenced by environment, culture, genetics and behaviour
  • Understand the activities and interventions that can support people to achieve and maintain a healthy weight
  • Be mindful of weight bias. Use neutral, non-blaming language when discussing weight
