Macmillan library project
Are you living with cancer? Or do you know someone who has been recently diagnosed? Then we are here to help.
Macmillan Cancer Support now has a permanent information area at Southampton Central Library. Library staff are happy to help you find the information you want.
You will also find a computer available for confidential research about cancer and library staff can help you to use this if necessary.
We provide lots of free information about anything to do with cancer which you can read at the library or take home with you. There is also some information to help children who may be affected.
There is Macmillan information in every library in Southampton, with the main resources held at Central, Shirley, Lordshill and Bitterne.
Resources can be borrowed from any library using a library card and can be reserved free of charge if they are on loan to another borrower.

Activities with Macmillan
- Walk and talk
These monthly walks start from Central Library in the Civic Centre and are run by Macmillan volunteers who can offer support whilst taking a gentle 45 minute stroll around Central Parks.
On return to Central Library, walkers are invited for refreshments and a chat with the team.
The health walk not only offers support to individuals, but aims to encourage physical activity in a safe and supportive environment. The walk incorporates mindfulness as a tool to assist with stress.
The walks take place every Monday starting at 10:45am. Refreshments served until 12:30pm
For more information, please get in touch.
- Macmillan Mondays
Macmillan Mondays are weekly coffee mornings at Central Library which are open to the general public.
They are held every Monday 10:30am to 12:30pm at the Macmillan Info Area (subject to volunteer availability).
Come along and meet our team of friendly staff and volunteers. We talk and we listen.
A small donation will be requested for drinks and cake but all of our cancer information is FREE.
