Southampton City Council announce 45 additional roads that will benefit from resurfacing and improvements
Southampton City Council highlight additional road maintenance locations as part of a package of additional funding
Southampton City Council today announced an additional 45 roads that will benefit from road resurfacing and improvements.
These highway locations have been found to have the highest maintenance need for the 2023/24 programme year, beyond the current plans to deliver identified carriageway and footway repairs and resurfacing up until the end of March 2023.
Last month’s budget agreed an additional £5m injection of investment into the City’s highway infrastructure and a proportion of this will be added to existing planned funding for 2023/24 to result in nearly £8m of potential highway works to be delivered. The list of identified locations* to next receive maintenance attention is below. The 2023 footways programme is being worked up currently and an announcement regarding this will be made later this year.

As part of a separate initiative, residents may have already seen the council’s new Pothole Patrol teams out and about in the city completing works. These teams are being funded through an additional £830k, which was allocated to establish a network of dedicated pothole repair crews across the city.
Councillor Jeremy Moulton, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Growth, commented:
“The extra investment is excellent news for all road users in Southampton. This level of commitment to improve our highway network shows how seriously we take the issue of potholes and the overall quality of our roads and pavements. Having good roads for communities and businesses is essential for residents and businesses – and this extra investment in our roads will really help to deliver our promise to Get Southampton Moving.”
*The list of roads is not definitive. They are locations identified as part of routine condition surveys. Each road still requires further investigation, therefore some may not be viable for this cycle, so would be added to subsequent priority rankings if needed to be.
