Homesearch

Homesearch is the choice-based lettings partnership between Southampton City Council and partner housing associations.

We work with several housing associations (also known as registered providers) who have homes available to rent in Southampton. This maximises the number of homes available to people on the Housing Register.

This also means that your application covers both us and the other housing associations. Previously you had to apply to us and each housing association separately.

Using Homesearch

Applicants who are on the Housing Register can use Homesearch to view vacant properties and place bids. They can then bid for (express an interest in) advertised properties which suit their needs. Details of all available properties will be advertised on Homesearch.

About social housing in Southampton

The wait for social housing in Southampton is often five or more years.

Social housing is not always the right option for everyone

  • It is not available in all areas of the city
  • Not all property types are available

If you want a specific property type or location, then social housing may not be a solution for you.

Keep us up to date

If you are on the Housing Register, remember to keep us up to date. It is your responsibility to tell our Allocations team about any changes to your household or housing situation.

What happens if I do not keep you up to date?

If you do not keep your details up to date, your application will be cancelled. You may also be excluded from the Housing Register.
