Southampton to host formal civic service of commemoration and thanksgiving for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

A special civic service of commemoration and thanksgiving for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will be held at Saint Mary’s church in Southampton this Sunday

The Right Worshipful Lord Mayor of Southampton welcomes residents across the city to attend and pay their respects.

Members of the congregation will be welcomed by the Revd Jon Finch, with introductions by the Bishop of Southampton, the Right Revd, Debbie Sellin. There will be a reading by the Deputy Lieutenant of Hampshire and prayers led by the Lord Mayor’s Chaplain.

The service begins at 3pm and is expected to last for around 40 minutes. Members of the public are reminded that once Saint Mary’s Church has reached capacity, they are welcome to congregate in the church grounds.

Parking is extremely limited and those wishing to attend should consider sustainable travel options such as travel by bus or car sharing. Nearby car parks include Chapel Road St Mary’s SO14 5GL and James Street Long Stay SO14 1PJ.

Southampton’s service of commemoration takes place a day before Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II funeral on Monday 19 September, which will be a bank holiday.
