Key roles announced at Full Council meeting

City ViewCouncillor Christopher Hammond has been formally re-elected as the Leader of Southampton City Council at the Full Council Meeting today (15 May).

Following the local election on Thursday 2 May, where 16 out of 48 seats (one in every ward of the city) were contested, the Labour group were retained as the council’s Executive with an overall majority of eleven seats on the council.

Southampton’s new Mayor and Sheriff were also sworn in. Councillor Peter Baillie became the city’s 797th Mayor while Councillor Sue Blatchford takes on the role of the 582nd Sheriff. Both will hold the posts for the next year.
