The Early Years & Childcare Team are pleased to share details of our next conference which takes place in spring 2024.
Early intervention for children with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) is critical. The development of a child’s communication ability has an impact on their school readiness, literacy skills, confidence, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing. It also impacts a wide range of long-term consequences in terms of education, employment prospects and mental health.
This conference will be an opportunity to look at the current context of SLCN, both locally and nationally, and explore together what we can do to help the children of Southampton reach their full communication potential!
We have an exciting programme of speakers including:
- OFSTED
- The Youth Justice Service
- Our own Early Language Consultant
- Specialist Speech and Language Teacher and Language Intervention Team
And, a published author and researcher who will take us on a journey looking at early identification, impactful intervention and long-term outcomes.
There will be fun, informative and interactive activities throughout the day and a competition to win prizes including your very own copy of the Word Aware intervention book, which we will be outlining on the day!
Our annual conference is always the highlight of our calendar, and we would love you to join us at what we hope will be a real highlight for you too!

Conference tickets are £50 per delegate.
We can only accommodate 100 delegates, and bookings will be limited, so we advise booking early to avoid disappointment.
Refreshments will be available throughout the day, however lunch is not included. Delegates are asked to bring their own lunch, which can be eaten on the premises. There will be an opportunity at break time and lunch time to network with Early Years colleagues from the Early Years and Childcare Team, and from across the city.
