Lord Mayor's charity

The Right Worshipful the Lord Mayor of Southampton, Councillor James Baillie, has chosen three
charities to support in his mayoral year. Any monies raised will be given to the charities at the end
of his term of office. All charities are local and very relevant for Southampton.

Saints Foundation

Saints Foundation, the charity of Southampton Football Club, supports Southampton by delivering projects that respond to the ever-evolving needs of the people of the city. Connecting with communities using the power of the Saints badge, we help those who feel the impact of inequalities the most. We support people in need throughout Southampton, providing life-changing opportunities to help our city and its communities thrive. We have five key focus areas – Health, Education, Gender Equality, Employability, and Pathways. Our work is delivered in schools, community centres, parks, hospitals, care homes, leisure centres and at our home at St Mary’s Stadium.

Our vision is that Southampton is a city where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

The Courage Foundation

Tragically in March 2015 our son suddenly died one night, not more than 24 hours after our daughter, Jubilee, was born the day before. It was such a massively hard
time for us as a family dealing with the joy of Jubilee’s birth and the death of Jethro. This charity was set up in memory of Jethro Courage. We want to celebrate who he was and to pass on the experience of love and support we’ve had as grieving parents. We found it difficult to get through days and to create a fun time for children who are still with us who are also grieving.

Therapy through theme parks

As grieving parents, we know how hard it is to sometimes just get out of the house. We found spending a few days together as a family away from everything incredibly helpful and so we created
‘Therapy Through Theme Parks’. The Courage Foundation provides annual passes, days out and weekends away for children and their families following the death or a parent or sibling. It helps to
provide opportunities for families to create new memories and choose joy in an incredibly difficult journey.

The aim is to support bereaved children and their families to:

  • Have fun! (provided for you without needing any energy or emotional investment to make it
    happen!)
  • Make new memories!
  • Mark and remember their special person who has died
  • Know that as a family you can get through and keep on going.

Mountbatten Hampshire

Mountbatten HampshireMountbatten Hampshire, formerly known as Countess Mountbatten Hospice, has provided care in Southampton and Hampshire for 45 years. As a charity, we offer free care and support to individuals with life-limiting illnesses, along with bereavement and psychological support for their families. Our mission encompasses three key goals:

  • Ensuring everyone in need receives our care and support;
  • Changing public perceptions about death, dying, bereavement, and our work;
  • And guaranteeing the sustainability of our services for future generations.

We provide care and support to anyone in need of palliative care and associated support in Southampton and Hampshire, delivering free 24/7 care to people in their own homes. On average we support 1,500 people every day through the provision of comprehensive medical, domiciliary, rehabilitation, social, psychological, and spiritual care, aiding them and their families during the final stages of life
