Can’t get a job interview? We can help!

If you are being passed over for job opportunities or struggling to even secure an interview, you’ll probably benefit from some expert help. And the good news is we are here to do just that!

Our free employment support service has helped lots of council tenants gain paid employment, learn new skills, and improve their life. So, what are you waiting for? Read on to find out how the service works, what our new employability course entails and what you can expect if you drop into a work club.

You might have read about our employment support service in Tenants’ Link or seen an advert for a weekly work club near you. However, if you’re low on confidence, unsure about trying something new or meeting new people, it can feel daunting to ask for help. But there’s really no need to worry. Our employment advisors offer friendly, non-judgemental support in a relaxed atmosphere where everyone is welcome.

We know there are lots of reasons why people struggle to find work. Maybe you’ve had a long career break because you’ve been bringing up children or cared for a family member, suffered from health issues, or you’ve been in prison or homeless and unable to work? Whether you were sacked from your previous job, left school early and have no qualifications or are worried about poor reading and writing skills – don’t worry. We offer expert one-to-one advice to help you find work or increase your hours, whatever your personal situation or background.

Simply drop in to one of our free weekly work clubs held in various locations across the city and have a chat with one of our friendly employment advisors. You can use computers, access the internet, gain useful tips on how to search and apply for job adverts, write a CV, answer interview questions, and access courses to boost your confidence, motivation, and skills.

With so many people currently struggling to make ends meet we are running a free workshop focusing on budgeting and cost of living support. The workshop will take place on Tuesday 14 February 2023 at the SO18 Big Local Hub in Bitterne and will cover practical advice on money issues such as:

  • Understanding payslips, tax, National Insurance, and pensions
  • Paying bills online
  • How to budget your money
  • The difference between Direct Debit and Standing Order
  • Interest rates
  • Using credit cards
  • The dangers of using payday loans and loan sharks
  • How to tackle debt
  • The benefits of jam jar savings accounts

Simply get in touch if you would like more details and to book a place on the budgeting workshop or an employability course (or both).

If you don’t feel confident dropping into a work club and would prefer to chat over the phone to receive advice and support, please call Francesca on 07811 165129.
