Extra support for victims of domestic abuse

We’re strengthening our support for victims and survivors of domestic abuse in Southampton to ensure that everyone, regardless of race, disability, or identity, can access the help and support they need.

Thanks to recent government funding we are working with expert partners Yellow Door and Stop Domestic Abuse to focus on reaching victims from marginalised communities.  We want to ensure that everyone – even those who may face additional barriers to seeking help such as those with disabilities, from ethnic minorities or the LGBTQ+ community – can access support services and safe accommodation.

Three new Domestic Abuse Advocates have been funded to provide specialist support, advice and guidance to victims and training for professionals in Southampton, helping them to understand the challenges faced by marginalised victims. The advocates will also work with local community organisations to help increase awareness around unhealthy relationships and encourage victims to come forward and access support.
