Has coronavirus affected your income or your job?

The last year has been a tough one and we know many people have seen a drop in their income, or even lost jobs as a result of the pandemic. As the government’s roadmap out of lockdown takes effect, our Employment Support Team is here to support you on your journey back into employment, education or training.

If you’re unsure about how to find a new job, need support talking to employers about aids and adaptations, or even if you’re worried about going back into the workplace after a long time, we can help. We provide impartial information, advice and guidance tailored to your individual situation to help you achieve your goals.

T.E.E.M is the council’s employment support service for council tenants. We can help you write or update your CV, prepare for interviews and improve your confidence. Your Employment Officer will be your dedicated port-of-call for friendly advice and support around returning to work, and they can signpost you to additional support around benefits, housing or debt if required. Get in touch today to find out more or drop in to our free Virtual Work Club, which runs on Zoom every Thursday, 3pm-5pm.

As well as support around employment there are lots of other online resources available to help you at this time:

  • Find out if you could get support from the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.
  • Check out the Work and Financial Support available during the pandemic, including information around furlough, self-employment and working from home tax-relief.
  • Wondering if you’re eligible for benefits? Use the online benefits checking tool to see if you qualify for Universal Credit. It only takes a few minutes, doesn’t require any detailed information and your personal data won’t be processed or stored. It’s an easy first step if you’re unsure whether to start a claim.
  • If you want to develop your skills, there are several online tools to help. Visit Grow People for a calendar of free, local courses and training opportunities and check out The Skills Toolkit for details of free digital and numeracy courses.
  • The Lifetime Skills Guarantee means that people aged 19+ who don’t already have a Level 3 qualification can now get their first Level 3 qualification for free. Find out more about the Lifetime Skills Guarantee.

Don’t forget, we’re here to support you back into employment, so if you need any advice or support, please contact us or visit our website.
