Next council homes for Southampton

The need for more affordable housing – both to rent and buy – is more important than ever, so it’s good news that our plans to develop hundreds of new council homes across Southampton are progressing well. When lockdown restrictions eased earlier in the summer, work was able to restart safely back on our construction sites where council homes are taking shape.

The £144 million investment programme includes new council homes for affordable rent, plus shared ownership homes to help more people get onto the property ladder.

As well as addressing the housing need in the city, our development programme is also providing a welcome boost for the local economy by creating over 1,000 jobs, apprenticeship opportunities and investment in the local construction industry.

New council homes have already been delivered or are under construction in Townhill Park, Lordshill and Millbrook. Our council housing has a real focus on affordability, design and energy efficiency to ensure residents benefit from eco-friendly homes.

And the next phase of our exciting plans will deliver a further 726 homes in neighbourhoods including:
Townhill Park, where work to demolish blocks of flats and carry out major road improvements is well under way. This major regeneration scheme will see the neighbourhood transformed with up to 665 new homes and improved facilities for local people.

Lordshill, where over 100 new, affordable homes are being built on the site of the former Oaklands Community School.

Maybush, where a state-of-the-art housing-with-care scheme is being built on the former site of Woodside Lodge. The development includes 83 purpose-built flats providing residents with ‘extra care’ facilities. There will also be a guest flat. A further 15 apartments are being built close by especially for residents aged 50 and over.
