Personal employment support that comes to you

We’re changing the way we provide support to help council tenants find a new or a better job. Rather than popping into a work club, you can now choose when and where to meet an experienced employment advisor.

You may prefer to get together in a café or your local library, at playgroup while the kids are occupied, or even on a bench in the park; simply tell us your preferred public location and we’ll be there, as long as it isn’t a residential address. You can even choose the employment officer you meet! We want to make it as easy as possible for you to receive expert and friendly advice tailored around your individual situation and needs.

Whether you want to get a job, embark on training, find a volunteering opportunity, or start your own business; our employment advisors will be there to support you every step of the way. If you’re over 16 and live in a council property, simply get in touch and book your appointment today.

Southampton tenants Dave and Anna are just two of the many residents who have benefited from our expert help and support to change their lives:

Anna feels much more prepared for work, saying: “I went to a workshop which was really helpful with getting into courses and looking for jobs, and the employment course showed me how to update my CV and prepare for interviews.”

Dave says visiting a work club really helped to build his self confidence: “Thanks to the advice and support I received I feel so much more confident making applications and attending interviews now. The future looks bright!”

In order to bring our Employment Support Service to you we have closed the work clubs that used to take place in Weston Library, Northam Community Centre and Shirley Baptist Church. But the weekly drop-in sessions at Bitterne Library (Monday’s 10am till 12 noon) and in Central Library (every Thursday 3-5pm) will continue.

To help us further improve our service please take a couple of minutes to answer our short survey so we can gain your thoughts on how we can best help you achieve your employment goals.
