Residents tell us why Millbrook matters

When residents get together to speak with one voice, they can achieve resounding results, as the local community in Millbrook has been finding out.

Residents formed a local group called Millbrook Matters in the summer of 2020.  Originally established to address concerns about antisocial behaviour in the area, the group has grown and flourished. Now, as well as raising local issues and working to make Millbrook a better place to live, the group also organise regular social activities. By bringing together people who feel passionately about making their neighbourhood a better place to live, Millbrook Matters has helped to create a real surge of community pride on the estate.

Organisers Tracy and Kathi say:

“Millbrook is a lovely area, the people are amazing, but it just seems to have lost its sparkle in previous years and it is something we would like to get back. So we set up the group for local people who feel the same way to get involved and help make this area a better place to live. There are seven key people who run the group and currently we have 744 members and that number is increasing all the time. We organise events to help improve the local area such as litter picks in Green Park and Mansell Park and walkabouts with local councillors where residents can point out areas of concern.

“Since setting up the group we have noticed how many people are lonely, so we also arrange social events to bring neighbours together to enjoy fun and companionship.  Our weekly schedule of activities includes: Monday madness, Tuesday crafternoon, wellbeing Wednesday, fun fact Friday and sporty Saturday. We hope to resume these activities as soon as restrictions allow and in the meantime we keep in contact through our Facebook page. After COVID, we plan to hold craft fairs for local residents, afternoon teas, fun days at local parks and hopefully one day even a local market. Anyone who lives in Millbrook can get involved, just email us for more details or search for Millbrook Matters on Facebook.”
