South Coast tenants get together

A special event to bring together tenants from across the region to discuss housing issues and share ideas will take place later this month in Southampton.

It’s the latest conference to be organised by South Coast Training – an initiative first launched back in 1999 when Southampton City Council housing staff united with five other social housing providers to organise a pioneering regional conference.

Since then, the initiative has gone from strength to strength. Popular South Coast Training events now take place every April and October when up to 80 tenants from across the region can benefit from an informative and interactive day of training and networking.

Participants can take part in relevant and engaging workshops, which in the past have included subjects such as welfare reform, tackling antisocial behaviour, housing law, public speaking and wellbeing.

The day aims to empower tenants to learn new information and develop skills that will enable them to get more involved and make a difference where they live. As it’s a relaxed and informal event, it’s also an opportunity for residents and housing staff to mingle and chat with people from other towns and organisations, to compare issues, share ideas, ask for advice and make useful connections for the future.

The South Coast Training event scheduled for Saturday 22 April will bring together residents and housing staff from nine different social housing providers. As well as Southampton City Council, there will also be representatives from Gosport Borough Council, New Forest District Council, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council, Abri, Southern Housing Group, VIVID Housing, Winchester County Council and Portsmouth City Council. The organisations share the expense and the organising of the project.
