Council Tax Reduction (CTR) is applied to your council tax account and will reduce your council tax bill by the amount we calculate you can receive (this will depend on your income and circumstances).

If you are a working age person and not receiving a War or War Widows pension we will deduct 25 per cent from any CTR you are awarded.

If you have reached pensionable age or receive a War or War Widows pension

If you do not have any excess income (the amount of income over your applicable amount) your CTR will cover the full cost of your Council Tax liability (less any non dependant deductions). If you receive Guarantee Credit: You will receive the full amount of reduction after any deductions for non-dependants have been taken off.

If you are classed as a working age person

We will deduct 25 per cent from the amount of CTR you are entitled to (this is as well as any non dependant deductions).

Claiming Council Tax Reduction if you have claimed or get Universal Credit (UC)

CTR can help towards the cost of your Council Tax.

If you have recently claimed UC you do not need to make a claim for CTR. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will tell us you have claimed UC and we can use your UC new claim details as a claim for CTR.

If we contact you for more details you must reply as soon as possible or you may lose out on help.

If you already get UC and you are not getting CTR you will need to make a claim as soon as possible.

Second Adult Rebate

Second Adult Rebate is a reduction that can be applied to your council tax bill and is calculated based on the income of any second adult in your property.

You may be able to claim Second Adult Rebate if you are the Council Tax bill payer and you don’t get the Single Person Discount because one or more adults live with you.
