Window locks

Window locks and window restrictors

We have fitted window locks and restrictors (these restrict how far a window can open) in all our flats and maisonettes. If you do not have any, you can ask for them to be fitted.

We provide locks and restrictors to help keep you, your family and your visitors safe. Using them will also help make your home safer from burglary.

Any new windows we fit are lockable. All our windows are made and fitted to the British Standards relevant at the time of manufacture.

When signing-up for a new home all new tenants are shown how to operate their windows and given a detailed leaflet on this. If you are not sure how to use any window lock or restrictor in your home please ask your housing office for advice.

If you have window locks using keys please make sure you know where the keys are and you can get them easily in an emergency. In the event of a fire you will not have time to look for a key. Once issued, window keys are your responsibility.

If you lose them you will have to replace them yourself or pay for us to fit new locks.
