Are you worried about your behaviour?

Unfortunately the festive period always sees an increase in reports of domestic abuse, as Christmas brings stress, financial worries, and relationship problems for many households

Heightened tensions and family gatherings at this time of year can cause situations to escalate.

Domestic abuse is not just about violence, we can hurt people we love with words or actions that can be just as damaging to relationships.

It takes strength to admit that you are using harmful or unhealthy behaviours in your relationship, sometimes we need support to recognise how our behaviour is impacting on partners and children, along with looking after our own wellbeing. If you recognise you would benefit from help to understand how to manage emotions in a healthy way, or communicate more effectively, support is available.

Who can help me change?

If you think this applies to you and you want to make a positive change for 2023, there are organisations that can help you look at your situation and support you to manage your behaviour and emotions that will not cause harm to others:

  • Hampton Trust offers non-judgmental support and advice to help you change your behaviour, including specialist programmes, courses and outreach work
  • Respect is the national association for domestic violence perpetrator programmes and associated support services

If you are a victim of domestic abuse contact your Local Housing Office, PIPPA on 023 8091 7917 or for help call the National Domestic Violence Helpline on 0808 2000 247 which is available 24/7.
