New council homes available in Lordshill

Southampton’s newest council homes will soon be welcoming their very first tenants.

Work has recently completed at Potters Court in Maybush, a-state-of-the-art housing with care scheme that provides 83 purpose-built flats and community facilities. Next door a further 15 apartments are available for over 50s at Kiln Court. Over in Lordshill, more than 100 council houses and flats are being built at Starboard Way and you can shortly bid online for one of these homes via Homebid.

The first phase of new homes at Starboard Way includes a mixture of two and three-bedroom semi-detached and terraced houses for general needs tenants. The energy-efficient properties all benefit from features to save money and protect the environment such as wall insulation, solar panels and provision for electrical car charging points. All the houses at Starboard Way also come with a rear garden that includes a paved patio area and garden shed.

The family-friendly development will include several play areas for children, and cyclists are well catered for with a dedicated cycle route through the site and secure cycle storage in each back garden.

The phased delivery of new affordable council-owned homes at Starboard Way will see more properties available to bid on in the coming months, with the entire scheme due to be completed by Summer 2022.

The new homes sit on the site of the former Oaklands Community School and local residents have been invited to join in public consultations throughout the design and build programme. Pupils at nearby Fairisle Junior School even came up with the name of Starboard Way.

There are plans for more council homes to be developed across the city including at Townhill Park where hundreds of new affordable homes are planned.

Check out next month’s issue for more details about the brand new homes at Potters Court and Kiln Court in Maybush.
