Winter gardening in and around estates

There are many grassy areas in and around our estates, which we work hard to maintain for much of the year. While we continue to maintain shrubs and clear leaves all year round, we can’t use our lawn mowers during the winter months because the ground becomes too wet.

Shortly our mowers will have to stop for the winter, but all being well, and if the weather allows, we plan to start again in April 2022. When the mowing routines return to normal, remember you can check our online mowing calendar to find out when staff will be cutting the grassed areas around your neighbourhood. Simply click on the area where you live to find out when the grass in your area was last cut, and when it is next due to be cut. You might also see ‘progress notes’ added by the team.

If you want to help us ensure the green spaces around your property look clean and tidy, regularly tended and well kept, why not volunteer as a green space monitor? All we ask is that you complete a short survey once a month to let us know the standard of grass cutting in your neighbourhood.  We then use the feedback from green space monitors to see where we are providing a good service and where we need to improve.

If you’re a keen gardener and want to brighten up the outside space where you live, check out this story on how to set up a HELP agreement to take on responsibility for maintaining your outdoor area.

In many council neighbourhoods, residents have come together to form community garden clubs. As well as transforming unloved pieces of ground into colourful havens where residents can relax and socialise, community gardening is also having a positive impact on improving the health and wellbeing of everyone involved. Find out if there is a community gardening club near you or get in touch to see how we can help you and your neighbours establish a formal group and apply for funding.
