Information for residents moving out of Southampton

One of the most important things you need to do as soon as you move out of Southampton is to tell us you’re moving. We can then send you a closing bill, or a refund, for Council Tax. Don't forget it’s your responsibility to re-register to vote at your new address and to tell us about this change in your circumstances for benefits where relevant.

It's worth planning where all your furniture will go a few weeks in advance of your move and disposing of any items you don't want to take with you. You can get rid of items at the nearest recycling centre or book in a bulky waste collection for things like mattresses or sofas.

The process for applying for a new school place largely depends on where you’re moving to as each school have a different policy on joining throughout the school year. Check the deadlines and criteria of your preferred schools but more importantly, keep your child enrolled in their current school until you’ve secured them a new school place in case something happens with your move.
