Set out early in the previous Local Plan, the £132m redevelopment of the former Bargate Centre into the new Bargate Quarter is already well underway. Regenerating the area around the Bargate itself and the medieval Town Walls, bringing life back to these amazing heritage assets while also providing 2,515 square metres of commercial space and 519 much needed new homes in a highly sustainable location. Once completed, the Bargate Quarter will open an exciting new chapter in one of the most historic parts of Southampton.

Dating from 2003 the plans for the redevelopment of the former Vesper Thorneycroft site in Woolston into Centenary Quay represents over £500m of investment in Woolston and Southampton. Creating a vibrant and sustainable community which has important part in delivering new affordable homes across the city.

In addition to flagship regeneration projects, smaller scheme’s will also be considered by Southampton City Vision. The South Central Logistics Park came forward as part of the previous Local Plan, delivering three logistics buildings on Test Lane which have since been occupied by Hermes, John Lewis and CFF Southampton but the scheme was also able to provide a new linear park between it and residents on Coniston Road and Gover Road, providing new recreational space on land previously closed to the public.

Regeneration of Leisure World was identified in the City Centre Masterplan 2013 as part of what was then called the Western Gateway. Plans for the mixed use scheme, featuring 650 new homes, two hotels, cinema, casino and leisure and wellbeing facilities have been evolved in the following years culminating in an outline planning consent in March 2021 (20/01544/OUT), establishing that the regeneration proposals are acceptable in principle. The next stage of the development will be to submit detailed planning applications for each of the four proposed phases, which could potentially lead to construction starting on phase 1 in late 2022.

The former Debenhams site on East Street closed in May 2021 and has been put forward for consideration in Southampton City Vision by developer National Regional Property Group. The site has been granted planning permission for 607 new homes and new commercial space in this highly sustainable city centre location.
