Businesses and street cleaning

Local businesses are an important part of the community. You can support a clean environment by making sure your waste is stored safely and securely. Under Section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, all businesses have a duty of care for the disposal of all their recyclable materials and commercial waste.

Business rates do not cover businesses for any recycling or waste collections and businesses are responsible for the management of all the waste they produce. If you have not got a trade waste contract in place to dispose of your waste, you can contact our commercial waste team to organise collections. Alternatively, you can use a reputable contractor.

Please also ensure bin sizes and collection frequencies are sufficient. This will help avoid over-spilling or side waste, which can easily generate more street litter.
