Generic job descriptions for school support staff

NOTE: These generic roles have primarily been developed for use in Community and VC schools. However, other schools are welcome to use them if desired.

This suite of generic job descriptions/person specifications for support staff has been developed in conjunction with schools. All have been job evaluated and therefore may be used by schools for new posts without the need for further job evaluation.

The job descriptions have been deliberately written as ‘generic’ roles, to encompass a broad scope of duties. Therefore, when recruiting to a post, schools may wish to add an appended ‘task list’, to set out in more detailed form the exact duties required of the postholder.

The job descriptions and person specifications themselves should not be altered except for:

  • Branding/badging with the school’s logo
  • Minor changing of wording to suit the school’s needs (for example a Business Manager may be called a Bursar, or a Teaching Assistant an LSA)

If recruiting to a post for which none of the generic job descriptions is suitable, the normal job evaluation process MUST be followed.

Additional generic job roles may be added to this suite from time to time.
