The Healthy High 5 Award was launched in Southampton to make it easier for schools to provide healthy and fun activities for all pupils to improve their wellbeing.

The Award has five achievable elements (stars) designed to have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of all school pupils. The Award is renewed each term, where schools can work towards three different levels - bronze, silver and gold.

Modeshift STARS is a national schools awards scheme that recognises schools that have demonstrated excellence in supporting cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable travel. The scheme encourages schools across the country to join in a major effort to increase levels of sustainable and active travel in order to improve the health and well-being of children and young people.

Every school in England can participate in Modeshift STARS for free. On completion of an application for Modeshift STARS, schools will automatically have a brand-new School Travel Plan.

Many schools in Southampton are already becoming STARS accredited by working hard to educate their children about the benefits of active travel in innovative and fun ways.

The Eco-Schools programme aims to rally and unite young people to make realistic but dynamic change, creating positive impacts for our planet now. They are committed to working with educators to ensure the programme works for them, supporting them to teach young people the skills and knowledge needed to benefit and improve our planet throughout their lifetimes.
