Your tenancy
Tenancy agreement
Your tenancy agreement is a legal document that describes the rights and responsibilities of the council, as your landlord, and you as our tenant. It is important that you familiarise yourself with it.
You can download a copy of your tenancy agreement.
If you would like a copy of your tenancy agreement in another language, please contact us.
Ending your tenancy
If you wish to end your council tenancy, please complete our notice of intent to vacate online form.
Only named tenants may submit the notice and we will need at least four weeks’ notice that you intend to hand back your property, during which time we will carry out a pre-vacation inspection of your home.
You will need to upload proof of identity, such as:
- Current passport
- Current driver's licence
- Proof of National Insurance number along with either birth certificate or proof of current address
Before you fill in this form
You won't be able to save this form to complete later, so please allow yourself ten minutes to fill in the form.
- Proof of identity – see list above
- Meter readings, if possible.
What happens next
We will contact you within three working days to confirm and advise you of the next steps. Until confirmed, the notice is not valid. We need to verify the identification you provided and check whether it is thought that anyone else is living in the property, and if so that they will be leaving as well.
You will be liable for the rent up to this date and thereafter until the keys are returned to the Council. To avoid being charged additional rent, please ensure that the keys are returned by 12.00 noon on that day. It is vital that you meet the Moving Out Standard.
